DEFENS MP Fire Protection Plaster
Fire protection material (plaster) for load-bearing steel structures “Defens MP” is designed to increase the fire resistance rating to R150.
Specifications
In its original form, the substance before application is a ready-to-use bulk mixture of gray plaster type based on expanded vermiculite, inorganic binder, fillers, and targeted additives.
Purpose and area of application
DEFENS MP is a dry mixture that transforms into a fire-resistant layer after application (wet shotcreting). It is used to protect steel structures, forming a fire-resistant coating thickness that meets the requirements of R-classes.
Advantages and features of the material
- The material is supplied as a dry mixture, ready for use.
- The fire-resistant layer is formed during application using the wet method (shotcreting).
- Manual application is not allowed — only mechanized methods.
- The coating is formed layer by layer to achieve the required thickness.
Application recommendations
Surfaces should be treated with Defens MP Primer before application to enhance adhesion.
The primer should evenly moisten the surface, applied at a consumption rate of ~0.2 kg/m².
The fire-resistant mixture is applied only by mechanized means (shotcrete, plastering units of the DUO MIX type) — manual application is prohibited.
The coating is applied in layers; each layer must correspond to the recommended thickness (horizontal / vertical surfaces).
Requirements for properties and substrate preparation
Metal structures must be primed, cleaned of rust, dust, and contaminants to ensure reliable adhesion.
The primed surface must be completely dry before applying the MP mixture (but no later than 24 hours after primer application).
For existing paint or primer coatings not on the recommended list, the application of the MP substance should be coordinated with the manufacturer.
Requirements for application conditions
Temperature and humidity must be within acceptable limits; application is not allowed under unfavorable conditions.
During application and layer formation, there should be no vibrations or movement of the structure.
Method of application
Mechanized method: shotcreting (wet spraying) — the mixture is applied through plastering units onto a moistened surface.
Application of the preliminary MP Primer, waiting for drying before the main application.
The coating is created layer by layer; the recommended thickness of one layer: horizontal surfaces — up to ~15 mm, vertical — up to ~20 mm.
The wet layer during application is formed with water in the appropriate ratio (for example, 1 kg of dry substance to ~1.0–1.2 l of water).
After application, the layer thickness is measured immediately, as it coincides with the thickness after drying (without significant changes).
